Andries Botha was approached by the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal to design and manufacture the awards for the 27th Durban Internation Film Festival 2006. After a proto-type was created and accepted, Botha created the bronze element/s, shaping the bases and working with women from the Zamukuziphilisa Community Centre in Umlazi on the beaded and embroidered cloth elements including the certifications which he designed to roll up and attach to the bronze/wood/beaded elements. This led to uniquely personalised awards being created for each of the winners. The award ceremony took place on Saturday, 24 June 2006.
