Early Projects
- Community Arts Workshop was started by Botha in 1983. It allowed blacks and whites to study the arts together . In 1988, shortly before the programme was shut down by the security police, Botha said (The Community Arts Workshop )“is a free space. It`s a principle of hope. You can go inside and be yourself.“
- Phakamani Fabrics grew out of a self-help project started by Andries Botha in the 1980’s. Women who have no other means of support are encouraged to use their artistic ability in the design and printing of richly patterned, vibrantly coloured cloth. Pakhamani designs draw upon the rich and varied symbols of life in the KwaZulu-Natal area.
